Birding in the Field: an Introduction to Bird ID for New or Novice Birders
SMBAS is offering a short course in bird identification for new or novice birders. This course is intended to help new or novice birders improve their observational skills while learning how to identify some of the common species that occur in the LA area.
The course consists of five Saturday morning sessions. Each session meets in a nearby park or natural area so we will be looking at birds in the field rather than in the classroom. Since we visit several different types of habitat, we will see a variety of species, including shorebirds, raptors, woodpeckers, hummingbirds and songbirds. As we go through the process of identifying the birds we see, we emphasize skills and methods that class members should find useful when birding on their own.
The class begins in February, 2012, and enrollment is limited to eight people. A donation of $50 per SMBAS member or $75 per non-member will be requested. For more information, send an e-mail to: <smbas [AT] verizon.net>, and put BIRD CLASS in the subject line.
